Dragon Wing’s space models have been getting more and more ambitious…and more and more exciting for modelers. This is demonstrated again by the newest 1/400 scale item – the Space Shuttle Atlantis mounted on a massive Crawler-Transporter. The idea behind this enormous vehicle was to transfer space rockets and Space Shuttles from NASA’s Vehicle Assembly Building to the launch complex at the Kennedy Space Center, a distance of some 5.6km. Two such vehicles were produced, and they were the world’s largest tracked vehicles when built. The Crawler-Transporter measures 40m long, 35m wide and 7.9m high. Its weight comes in at a staggering 2,721 tonnes! Built by Marion Power Shovel, the Crawler-Transporter ran on eight sets of tracks, two on each corner.
This model complements the earlier Discovery and Crawler-Transporter combination (Item No.56391). To the disappointment of many avid fans, it sold out. Therefore, Dragon has launched this version featuring the Atlantis, the fourth Space Shuttle to go operational. The 80-ton Atlantis was also the last Shuttle to fly, making this item even more desirable. Built to 1/400 scale, the entire assembly of the Shuttle Atlantis plus the MLP and Crawler-Transporter are produced in minute detail. Fine features such as the track links on the four tractors are all perfectly replicated. Even areas that are hidden (e.g. the inside surface of the MLP) are all fully furnished and painted. This astonishing Space Collection model from Dragon Wings is the perfect way to commemorate the accomplishments of Atlantis!
ADULT COLLECTIBLE MODEL - Not intended for children under 14.
